J.B. Moody

J.B. Moody, 88, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord, at home, surrounded by his family on January 27, 2025. He was born and raised in the Cooks Valley area on his family’s farm. J.B. was one of eleven children born to Ed and Ollie Moody. He graduated from Blountville High School in 1955 and shortly after he met his wife, Ida, and they were married for 64 years. J.B. began his career with Eastman Chemical as a machinist and retired as a general supervisor after 27 years. Following his retirement at Eastman, he opened his own business, Valley Machine, which he ran and operated for 28 years until he officially retired in 2016 at age 80. J.B. loved cars and owned many throughout his life. He liked to garden and loved tinkering with things in his shop. J.B. was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, and brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ollie Moody; brothers, Clifton, James, Clay, Ray, and Bill; two sisters, Louise Williams and Margie Jennings.

J.B. is survived by his wife Ida Musick Moody; children, Barry (Cindy) Moody and Jared (Debra) Moody; grandchildren, Jake and Rebekah Moody; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow with Jim Manis officiating.

Burial will follow at Emory Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
