J. C. Phillips, Jr., 90, of Kingsport, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at his home after an extended illness.
J. C. was born in Jasper, TN and moved to Kingsport at an early age. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and the University of Tennessee Memphis, receiving a Doctorate Degree of Pharmacy. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War II. J. C. retired from Broadwater Drug after 36 years. He was also an avid fisherman.
J. C. was a member of Oakwood Forest Christian Church in Kingsport.
J. C. was preceded in death by his son, Steve Phillips; his father, Joe Phillips and mother, Nell Russell Phillips.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rose Ellen Carter Phillips; niece, Jane Booher; great-niece, Laura Russell-Harper and husband Larry; nephew, Seth Harper; cousin, A. L. Phillips and wife Mildred; and special friends and neighbors, N. R. and Shirley Canipe.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson with Marlin S. Jaynes Jr., Minister and Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
