J.D. Minor

J. D. Minor, 78, died on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Kingsport, he was a 1956 graduate of Boone's Creek High School where he played football and basketball. J.D. served his country in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He returned to Kingsport and started working for City Plumbing & Welding before opening Minor's Plumbing, which he owned and operated for 52 years. J.D. was an avid Dobyns-Bennett High School sports supporter, in addition to U.T. sports, especially the Lady Vols. He was a member of Oakwood Forest Christian Church. J.D. loved bowling and participated in several leagues at Warpath Lanes and enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Danny and Lucille Minor; his first wife, Charlene Herron Minor; two daughters, Leisa Minor Dickens and Sarah Jane Minor; one sister; and two brothers.

J.D. is survived by his wife, Kay H. Minor, of the home; daughter, Andrea Lawson and husband, Jason of Surgoinsville; son, Mike Minor and wife, Janie of Kingsport; step-daughter, Terri Jones and husband, Brad of Greensboro, NC; stepson, David Snodgrass and wife, Tere of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Dustin Dickens, Travis Dickens and Mikaela Minor; five step-grandchildren, Griffin Jones and wife, Lorie, Parker Jones, Emily Jones, Maci Snodgrass and Ellie Snodgrass; four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Austin Kimberly, and Kinley; two brothers; five sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 1, 2014, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Ed Clevenger and Marlin Jaynes, Minister officiating.

Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
