Jean Ellis Bridwell, age 85, died January 27, 2016 after a brief illness. She was born to the late William Max Ellis and Anne Price Ellis on September 10, 1930 in Hawkins County, but lived most of her life in Kingsport. Jean was a master teacher who taught in Hawkins County, Sullivan County and Kingsport city schools until her retirement in 1988. She used her time and talents to serve her community by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and the Shepherd Center following her retirement. Jean was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Bridwell in 1998; sister, Kay Wice; and brother, Max Ellis, Jr.
Jean is survived by her children, Leslie (John)Brooks of Morristown,TN, Laura (Rodney) Balch of Johnson City, TN, and Ed (Kathi) Bridwell of Queen Anne, MD; grandchildren, Will, Rob, Jacob, Lindsey and Bo; sister, Sue Herries of Evans, GA; sister-in-law, Betty Ellis of Rogersville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was blessed with very special caregivers, Tammy, Carolyn, Angie, Jamie, Caroline, Tracy and Anna.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Mountain View United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Samuel Ward officiating.
A reception for friends and family will be held in the Fellowship Hall after the service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park at 3:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Youth Group of Mountain View United Methodist Church, 4405 Orebank Rd., Kingsport, TN 37664.
