Jean (Nelms) Hartsock

Jean (Nelms) Hartsock, 82, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017. She was born on September 29, 1934 in Kingsport, TN, was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and attended Depew's Chapel at Reservoir Road in Sullivan Gardens. Jean was a fun-loving person who loved everyone. She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1952 and was a graduate of Whitney's Business College in 1954. She retired from Clinchfield Roadroad (CSX) after 38 ½ years as a clerk in the office. Jean was loved by everyone and will be missed by all whose life she touched. Her hobbies were singing, dancing and playing the piano.

She was preceded in death by her husband, of 45 years, "Jimmy" James L. Hartsock; parents, George Arthur Nelms of Kingsport and Roxie (Nelms) Short of Mt. Carmel; and her sister, Betty Joann Gragg of Kingsport.

Jean is survived by her sisters, Lou Lowe of Antioch, TN, and Mary Jane Shipley of Church Hill; nieces, Linda Calton and Jean Calton of Church Hill, and Kathie Hensley of Kingsport; nephews, Jessie Hensley and wife, Sue of Laurel, Maryland, Pete Hensley of Kingsport, Rob Lowe of Kokomo, Indiana, and Michael Shipley of Church Hill.

The family will received friends on Wednesday from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 pm.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Eugene Thomas Crawford, Harold Crawford, Mike Wright and Pete Hensley. Luther Fields will serve as honorary pallbearer.
