Jean Morris Payton

Jean Morris Payton of Kingsport passed away early Thursday morning, February 27, 2020 at The Village at Allendale. Born in Knoxville, TN on February 19, 1931, a daughter of the late Lynn and Helen Post Morris, she had resided in Kingsport for many years.

Mrs. Payton served in retail management positions with Miller’s Inc., Hess’s Inc., and Proffitt’s. Inc.  She was a member and past President of the Junior League of Kingsport, Ridgefield Garden Club and Kingsport Junior Book Club.  Mrs. Payton attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and was an active Alumni of Chi Omega Sorority.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William John Horsley and Richard Joseph Payton.

Survivors include a brother, Lynn Morris of Denton, Maryland; nieces, Mary Myers, and Ellen and Ann Bilbrough; step-children, Maureen Collier, Richard and Ellen Payton, Christine and John Grunde, Terrance and Debbie Payton, and Robert and Melissa Payton; and cousins, William Curtis Jones and Dr. William Cloutworthy.
