Jean Shetterly passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, after a brief illness. Jean was born December 1, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Robert and Lyde Fugate Crawford. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, Tennessee Wesleyan University and East Tennessee State University.
Jean always talked of her career as an Executive Secretary at Mason Dixon. Her defining passion was her dedication and loyalty to First Broad Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the church choir and an office holder of the United Methodist Women. Her church family was most near and dear to her heart.
She was an avid Dobyns-Bennett alumni going to DB football games and enjoying the halftime shows. Jean was also a loyal University of Kentucky basketball fan. Go Cats!
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lyde Fugate Crawford; her devoted husband of 51 years, Lynn; brother, Lee Crawford; nephew, Greg Crawford; and sisters-in-law, Vennie Parker and Betty Frye.
Left to remember Jean is her sister-in-law, Gay Crawford; niece, Tracie Hall (Andy) and their three sons; the Parker and Frye families; godchild, Mary Carter Whitaker; and many cousins.
Jean’s family offers love and thanks to the many First Broad Street members who were so loving and helped her so many times. She always spoke of your dedication, service, love, and friendship. Special thanks go to Mandie Metzger, Doris Dexter, Trish Harris, Mary Sue Still, Toshiko Hartsock, and Bruce and Rosalee Sites. Also, a special thanks to all of those that touched her life and took such good care of her on the south wing at NHC Kingsport.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. A private graveside service will be held prior to her Celebration of Life.
Rather than flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to First Broad Street United Methodist Church, 100 E. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
