Jean G. Smith, 84, Kingsport, passed away unexpectedly at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, at her home due to an apparent heart attack.
Jean was born in Surgoinsville and had resided in Kingsport since 1938. She was an employee of the Kingsport Foundry, retiring in 1965. She was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. She was a past President of the WYOPI.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Delia Sams Goodman; two sisters, Mildred Goodman and Betty Derrick.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence E. Smith, Kingsport; daughter, Jean Anne Greene and husband Bryan, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Hannah Greene, Molly Greene, and Sara Alexander; sister, Mrs. Jessie Young and husband, Robert, Surgoinsville; special friend, Lana Pendleton, Kingsport; and, several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport, on Sunday, July 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the Chapel at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Dale M. Gilbert officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be given to Glen Alpine Methodist Church, 3200 Glen Alpine Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.
