Jean Dumont Spencer, 88, of Kingsport, passed away January 7, 2013.
She was born in Tampico, Mexico, and then moved to Mobile, AL. Jean married Norman Spencer in 1944. They moved to Kingsport in 1948 and remained happily married until his death in 2001.
Her proudest accomplishments were raising her wonderful family and her service at Sevier Terrace Recreation Center and Red Cross, where she taught more than 4, 000 children and adults how to swim.
She was a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for 64 years.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, C. Norman Spencer, Sr., past mayor of Kingsport; parents, Arthur and Ellen Dumont, of Mobile, AL; and brother, Arthur Dumont, of Pascagoula, MS.
She is survived by her children, C. Norman Spencer, Jr., of Lebanon, TN; Connie Lilley, of Rocky Mount, NC; and Sherie Spencer, of Kingsport; grandchildren, Charles Spencer, Matthew Spencer, Eric Spencer, Michael Lilley, Laurie Lilley, James Stephenson, Andy Hicks and Kadee Hicks; great-grandchildren, C. J. Spencer, Karly Spencer, Addi Spencer and Charlotte Spencer; brother, Eric Dumont, of Mobile, AL.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
A family graveside service will be Wednesday, January 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Edward J. Mills, III officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
