Jeanne Sandusky Conway died on Monday, June 9, 2014 in Kingsport, Tennessee. She was born in Monticello, Kentucky, and grew up in Somerset, Kentucky. Jeanne became a Christian at ten years of age and grew up in First Baptist Church of Somerset where she was active in numerous church groups. She graduated from Somerset High School where she was a member of various musical groups and the National Honor Society.
Jeanne graduated from Georgetown College majoring in music and piano performance, and was a member of Who's Who in American Colleges. After graduation she was appointed to the position of Assistant Professor of Music at Georgetown and continued teaching there for a number of years. She studied at the Julliard School of Music and earned her M. A. in music and piano performance from Columbia University in New York City. She performed many piano recitals and accompanied soloists and choirs.
She met her husband, Melvin, a returning veteran of World War II, while in Georgetown. They were married in Georgetown and resided there until moving to Kingsport. They were both active members of Georgetown Baptist Church and later at First Baptist Church of Kingsport.
Jeanne was a member of the Kingsport Music Club, a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a former member of the Music Education National Conference. At First Baptist she was active in Women's Missionary Union, Baptist Women, and served as Church Pianist for nearly 25 years. Jeanne taught private piano instruction to many students throughout her career.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Conway, parents, Judge and Mrs. J. S. Sandusky, two sisters, Evelyn Sandusky and Laura Snow Massey, and a brother, William S. Sandusky and two nephews, Richard and Bill Sandusky.
Jeanne is survived by a first cousin, Dr. Walter Cooper Sandusky, Memphis, Tenn. and other cousins in Mississippi and Florida.
A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Davis and Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating.
