Jennifer Meinrath Egan went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 10, 2018, after a brief illness. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1945, Mrs. Egan grew up in several states, graduating high school in Pensacola, Florida. She attended Agnes-Scott College for two years, and completed her Bachelor's Degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1967. While at UNC, she met her husband Larry, with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage later this year.
She had a servant's heart, giving of her time and gifts throughout her life. During her nearly 40 years in Kingsport, she was active in countless volunteer activities, including Junior League, Kingsport Tomorrow, Leadership Kingsport, and Trashbusters. She served on the Steering Team that helped establish Rascal's Teen Center. In 1987, she received the Sertoma Club of Kingsport's Service to Mankind Award for her Children's Advocacy efforts. She was active at First Broad Street United Methodist Church, as well as in the local Emmaus Community. Flowers always held a special place in her heart, and she was especially proud of First Broad Street's Flower Festivals. In recent years, she volunteered at Jackson Elementary School, and endeavored in her neighborhood to "Keep Greenacres Clean." Always passionate about the arts, her donation helped the city purchase the Yo Yo's Muse sculpture that now resides in the traffic circle at the intersection of Watauga St. and Gibson Mill Rd.
Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents, August and Alma Laura Meinrath; and brother, Tim Meinrath.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; son, Michael and wife Elise of Kingsport; daughter, Sarah Fuller and husband Bryan of Northeast Louisiana; brothers, John Meinrath of Houston, Texas, Mark Meinrath of The Woodlands, Texas; sister, Laura Meinrath of Corpus Christi, Texas; and her beloved grandchildren, Ella Egan, Christopher Egan, and Grayson Fuller.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, in the Sanctuary of First Broad Street United Methodist Church with The Rev. Joe Green, The Rev. Jack P. Weikel, and The Rev. Harrison Bell officiating.
A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
