Jerry Bentley, 72, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Born in Kingsport, he had lived in this area most of his life. He retired from Tennessee Eastman after over 30 years of service. After retirement, he then went back to work at Brock for 10 years. Jerry enjoyed working, but his main love was helping to spread the good news of Jesus throughout the world. He enjoyed hunting, wood working and spending time with his family. Jerry was a member and deacon of Darthula Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rosa Bentley, and his baby brother, Larry Wayne Bentley.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Darlene Bentley; daughter, Tammy Rogers and husband, Craig; son, Jerry Bentley and wife, Sheri; grandchildren, Brittany Thompson and husband, Scott, Hunter Bentley, Holly Rogers, and Tanner Bentley; sister, Mary Powers; brothers, Layton Bentley and wife, Brenda, J.W. Bentley and wife, Wanda, and Jimmy Bentley; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Layton Bentley, Hunter Bentley, and Rev. J.W. Bentley officiating.
The graveside service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mark McCrary, Jay Barb, Henry Hartsock, Brooks Shipley, Wayne Smith and Darris Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be Tanner Bentley, Scott Thompson and Josh Mosley.
