Jerry Light

Jerry Light, 65, Beech Creek Community, went to be with the Lord early Thursday, morning at his home following an extended illness. Jerry had lived his entire life in the Beech Creek Community and graduated from Rogersville High School. He was an employee of Holliston Mills, retiring in 2001 after 28 years of service. Jerry attended Gospel Mission Church and enjoyed working with his bees.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Jessie Light; two sisters, Reba Light and Sylvina Morelock; twin brother, Gene and brothers, Kenneth, Paul, Little Jay, Charles and Michael.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Shelby L. Light of the home; son, Chris Light and wife, Shiree of Gray, TN; two grandchildren, Devin Bledsoe and Alyssa Steadman; great-grandchild, Austin Proffitt; three sisters, Willidyne Morelock of Rogersville, Ruby Crawford of Kingsport, and Gerdine Shipley and husband, Bill of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 2nd from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Fall Branch or anytime at the home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Lewis Meade, Rev. Shelton Meade and Honorary Minister Rev. Orville Dolen officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, March 3rd at 2:00 pm at Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Leonard Crawford, Virgil Arnold, Danny Dolen, Mitchell Littleton, Justin Meade, Charles Scott, Ricky Light, Ivan Light and honorary pallbearer, George "Moe" Moore.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to his special caregivers, Evelyn Hensley and Ornie Light and neighbor, Eugene Fields for all of their help. They would also like to thank Amedisys Hospice and nurse Becky and aides, Sheila, Linda and Kayla.
