Jerry Lynn Strickler

With sorrow at his passing and Thanksgiving for his Life, the family of Jerry Lynn Strickler announces his death on Thursday, May 31, 2018. He died peacefully at his home in his sleep.

The son of David Virgil Strickler, Sr. and Rosie Ellen Wheelock Strickler of Fordtown, Jerry made his life for 49 years in the Eastern Star community. He graduated from Holston High School in 1963 and attended East Tennessee State University. He retired after many years from Mead Corporation in Kingsport. He was an outdoorsman. A renowned competitive marksman and a gifted sportsman, he roamed all over the hills and hollows of Sullivan and Washington Counties and beyond with his dogs in his earlier years and loved raising things on the farm. He lamented some of the encroaching urbanization that others called progress and wished for a better world for his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter-in-law, Dr. Leigh Stokes Strickler.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dana Ruth Frost Strickler; sons, Mark Edward Strickler of Gray and Michael Lynn Strickler of Houston, TX; son-in-law, Frank Flanigan; daughter-in-law, Constantina Boudouvas Strickler; four beloved grandchildren, Anastasia, Nicholas, Eleni Rose, and Sarah Constance Strickler; brothers, James Edward Strickler and David Virgil Strickler, Jr.; nephews; and several cousins.

The family suggests that memorials be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX (gifts.mdanderson.org) or to the V. Leigh Stokes Strickler Memorial Scholarship at Presbyterian College (Advancement Office, Presbyterian College; 503 South Broad Street; Clinton, SC 29325).

The family is deeply grateful for expressions of support and condolence of dear friends and relatives.

Family and friends are invited to a service celebrating Jerry's life on Wednesday, June 6th, at 2:00 pm at Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist Church (136 Bob Jobe Road in Gray), followed by a reception and visitation. Chaplain Earl Daniels will be officiating.
