Jerry William Vaughn, 85, Kingsport, died Tuesday, July 7, 2015.
Born December 13, 1929, the son of the late Emory and Bernice Vaughan, Jerry served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Lakenheath, England. He retired from AFG Industries after 40 years of service. He was an avid Dobyns-Bennett High School, University of Tennessee and Atlanta Braves sports fan.
He was a devoted father and papaw. He spent time with his children and grandchildren fishing, gardening, going to ballgames and family gatherings for all occasions. He kept the history and stories of his family and life alive by reminiscing and repeating events to his family with humor and detail. From growing up in Kingsport as a youth, to his high school years at Dobyns-Bennett, to traveling through Europe during his service in the Air Force and his life of fatherhood, Jerry retold stories leaving a legacy to his grandchildren and great- grandchildren that will be remembered by each of his family members. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone and never met a stranger. He embraced life with a gentleness and kindness.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Shipman Vaughn and brother, Worley Vaughan.
He is survived by four sons, Michael Vaughn, Terry Vaughn and wife, Kristin, Randy Vaughn and wife, Cheri, Kelly Vaughn and wife, Diana; two daughters, Rebecca Speers and husband, William and Judy Vaughn and partner Diane Buchanan; thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Fred and wife, June of Zebulon, NC; sister-in-law, Rebecca Tucker, several nieces and nephews.
