Jewell Marie Hudson Pendergrass

Jewell Marie Hudson Pendergrass, 75, "Her chains are gone, she's been set free" on August 19, 2017.

Mrs. Pendergrass lived in the Gunnings Community and on her family farm all of her life. She graduated from Blountville High School and was a lifetime member of Cassidy United Methodist Church, where she served in many leadership roles and was a member of the Seekers Sunday School class.
Jewell worked at The Kingsport Press and then spent many years driving a school bus in Sullivan County. She was a 4-H club volunteer for many years and a member of the Sullivan County FCE Club and the Women's Farm Bureau. In the last several years she enjoyed her friends at her weekly McDonald's Rook Club, a water aerobics class at Gold Star Fitness and the First Frontier Quilters Guild. Jewell enjoyed many hobbies (genealogy, canning, flowers, painting, sewing) but was most known for the beautiful quilts she hand-pieced for family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Haynes Pendergrass, and her parents W.J. and Frances Cain Hudson.

Mrs. Pendergrass is survived by her children, Bill (Cathy) Pendergrass, Lisa (Gary) Rupert, Wendi (Craig) Niebruegge, and special nephew, Jack (Vivian) Bradshaw; grandchildren, Erica (Jim Bowie) Adcock, Aaron (Alyssa) Faith, Andy and Dusty Pendergrass, Alyssa and Gabriella Rupert and Emma Grace, Rachel and Maggie Niebruegge; great-grandchildren, Layla Jewell Pendergrass, Raylee and Landon Faith; sister-in-law, Joyce Pendergrass; nieces and nephews, Scott, Robin, Julia and Kelly; lifelong friend and neighbor Diane Wine.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Cassidy United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Tom Hancock officiating.

Burial will follow at Gunnings Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Suzan Alley, Cassidy's Parish Nurse, for the unwavering support and compassion she offered Jewell through both her and Mr. Pendergrass' illnesses.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cassidy United Methodist Church Parish Nurse Ministry or the Roller Chapel/Cemetery General Fund (mail to 146 Flora Road Rogersville, TN 37857).
