Jim Barnes

James L. Barnes, 85, of Kingsport, died Friday morning, November 24, 2023, at Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.  He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County.  Jim retired in 2021 after 60 years of service as an automotive mechanic.  He was a family man and enjoyed coin collecting and racing.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Ann Barnes; daughter, Becky Repass; son, Randy Barnes; sister, Patsy Whitaker; brother, Bobby Barnes; and son-in-law, Darrell Fugate.

Jim is survived by daughters, Debbie Fugate, and Angie Garber and husband, Kevin; son, Kenneth Barnes and wife, Michelle of Livona, MI; grandchildren, Heather Duncan, James Jones, Randy Garber, Kayla Price, Jessica Henley, Tiffany Fugate, Alex, Jacob, Joey and Rebecca Barnes; great-grandchildren, Mason Henley, Annaleigh, Axel, Abigail, Aurora, Brooklyn and Brayden Barnes; fiancée, Margaret Ferguson of Kingsport; 2 sisters, Janice Fannon and Peggy Skeens; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Jason Younce.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Bill Younce officiating.  Burial will follow in Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
