Jim Holmes

Jim Holmes, 81, of Kingsport, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Russell County, VA, he has resided most of his life in the Kingsport area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Virginia National Guard, Gate City, VA. Jim had retired from Eastman Chemical Company, but his weekend hobby was working at Trader’s Village. Jim loved to do his wood working and spending time on his front porch.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen “Tootsie” Holmes; and parents, Charlie and Elma Holmes.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Toni Holmes Ball and husband Leonard; son, Joey Holmes and wife Jeanne; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lois Rasnake and husband Harold, Janice Holmes, and Nancy Meridith; two brothers, Charles “Gene” Holmes and wife Glenna, Benny Holmes; and several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to his caregivers, Tara Byington and Amanda Evans, for the love and care that was given.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Darrell Harmon officiating.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at East Lawn Memorial Park with Military Rites by American Legion Posts 3/265.
