Jim Merrill, 83, of Kingsport, formerly of Juneau, Alaska, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.
Born in Tonasket, Washington, he resided in Juneau, Alaska for many years where he worked for the State of Alaska as a civil engineer, retiring in 1997. Jim had resided in Kingsport for the last twelve years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Merrill.
Jim is survived by his children, Dana Dugdale and husband Bill of Anchorage, Alaska, Joe Merrill of Wasilla, Alaska, John Merrill of Los Angeles, California, Jay Merrill of Kingsport, David Merrill and wife Margo of Wasilla, Alaska, and Jayne Merrill of Los Angeles, California; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Jim was cremated. Private services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
