Jim Tomlinson, 69, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Vanderbilt Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Pennington Gap, VA and had resided most of his life in Kingsport, TN. Jim was a recreational licensed pilot and avid fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family and grandchildren on the lake.
He retired from Nortrax John Deere where he had been a southeast regional manager. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Venus Tomlinson and brother, L.C. Tomlinson.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Tomlinson of Kingsport, TN; daughter, Tracie Gillenwater and husband Randy of Kingsport, TN; sons, Tony Tomlinson and wife, Melissa of Charlotte, NC, and David Tomlinson and wife, Tina of Piney Flats, TN; six grandchildren, Danielle Bowker and husband, Doug, Ashley and Briana Gillenwater, Laurel, Lexi and Luke Tomlinson.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA.
Pallbearers will be Tom Nelson, Bob Woods, Jim Fischer, Jim Freeman, Del Roper and Kirk Peterson.
