William James Whittemore, 86, Kingsport, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 at his home under hospice care.
A life long resident of Kingsport, he was a veteran of World War II. Jim was the catcher on his softball team while in the Army Airforce. Jim was employed with Tennessee Eastman Company for 38 years retiring in 1987 from the Research Division.
He was a true sportsman and especially loved hunting, fishing, basketball and softball for many years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Goldie Whittemore; two sisters, Imogene Myers and Patsy Johnson; and five brothers, R.C., Rand, Paul, and Sherriell Whittemore.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Austin Whittemore, Kingsport; a daughter, Judy Rochelle, Franklin, TN; and grandson, Daniel Rochelle.
Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. with Rev. Phil Whittemore officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
