Jimmie (Jim) Ray Hommel

Jim Hommel, 74, was called to his heavenly home on Monday, March 31, 2014. He was born in Gate City, VA and had lived in California and Connecticut, spending most of his life in Kingsport. Jim was a 1957 graduate of Gate City High School. He was retired from Burlington and recently worked at Lowe's. Jim was a born again Christian and member of Sunnyside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and assistant Sunday school teacher. He loved the outdoors and his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Hommel and Mildred Taylor Hommel, and a sister, Judy Hayes.

Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Alberta Hubbard Hommel; two sisters, Brenda Rogers (Arthur) of Hollywood, AL, and Karen Anderson of Monteca, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-7:00 pm at Sunnyside Baptist Church. The service will follow at 7:00 pm with Dr. Roy Graves and Dr. Jack Parrott officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Chet Rogers, Bret Sumner, Kevin Sluder, Wade Sluder, Otto Botts, Shawn Botts, Hunter Botts and Jimmy Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Shelton, Chris Cooper, Leslie Dishon, Glenn Calhoun, Bill Whitemore, John Edd Wood, Johnny McClellan, Hagan McClellan, Larry Carter and special friend, Tim Jones.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sunnyside Baptist Church Building Fund, 406 Cooks Valley Rd., Kingsport, TN 37664.
