Jimmy L. Akens, 64, of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 8, 2010, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
Jimmy was a graduate of Church Hill High School. He was baptized at an early age and had recently rededicated his life to the Lord. He loved spending time with his family and listening to Bluegrass music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Beulah Akens.
Jimmy's survivors include a sister, Anita Chapman and husband, Jeff, of Church Hill; a brother, Charles Akens and wife, Rachel, also of Church Hill; a special uncle, Edward R. Akens and wife, Bea, Virginia Beach, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Kenny M. Hammond officiating.
Burial will follow at Gunnings Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Moffitt, Chris Housewright, Cecil White, Chris Akens, Austin Akens, and Johnny Chapman. Honorary pallbearers will be David Kirchner, Sr., David Kirchner, Jr., and David Parker.
