Jimmy "Jim" Lee Griggs

Jimmy “Jim” Lee Griggs, 76, of Jonesborough, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in his home in Jonesborough, following a recent diagnosis of ALS.

Born in Harlan County, KY, Jim was a graduate of Harlan High School. He was an employee for Eastman Chemical Company for over 42 years. Jim loved boating, hunting, fishing, flea markets, trading cars, fixing things (aka Mr. Haney), watching old westerns, and time with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lola and Lonnie Griggs; and special friends, Don and Sandy Bellamy, and Eugene Sword.

Jim is survived by his wife of 29 years, Anita Griggs; children, Melissa “Missi” Evans (Robert), Curtis Griggs, and Robin Dishner Kerkhoff (Dean); grandchildren, Jesse Brock (Elizabeth), Caitlin Morton (Jeremiah), Richard “Skylar” Brock, Mason Kerkhoff, Justus Kerkhoff, Kaitlin Evans, Emily Evans, Jacob Griggs (Alejandra), and Lauran Franklin; and great-grandchild, Keston Hicks.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Dr. David Guinn officiating.

Graveside services will be at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Holston View Cemetery. Those who wish may gather at the funeral home by 11:30 a.m. for a procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Leonard Ball, Roger Cash, Robert Evans, Jim Fulwiler, Dean Kerkhoff, and Eric Watts. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse, Skylar, Mason, and Justus.
