Jimmy Hurst, 70, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at his residence. Born in Kingsport on October 2, 1944, a son of the late Albert Hurst and Ruby Hurst Light, he had resided in this area his entire life. Jimmy was of the Baptist faith, having been saved and baptized.

He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, dad, Papaw, brother and friend who loved to fish and loved Sunday rides with his wife in his classic Corvette.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Ketron, nephew, David Ketron, and mother-in-law, Dorothy Smith.

Survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 30 years, Geralene Hurst of the home; son, Ricky Hurst of Surgoinsville; daughters, Lorie Crigger and husband, Tom of Mt. Carmel, and Becky Dykes and husband, Robin of Church Hill; step-sons, Shannon Hammonds and Chris Hammonds of Kingsport; step-daughter, Kim Wallen and husband, Tommy of Kingsport; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Zeke Ketron of Kingsport; sisters, Betty Ketron and husband, Frank, and JoElla Hulse and husband, Bob, both of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Fred and Judy Sproles of Bristol, TN.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 am in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Pastor Phil Whittemore officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Crigger, Tommy Wallen, Shannon Hammonds, Robin Dykes, Blaine Shepherd and Darren Brummitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Sproles, Jack Kasey, Lee Butler and Jeff Ramey.
