Jimmy Wayne Mullins, 65, died unexpectedly at his home. Born in 1944 in Scott County, VA, Wayne spent most of his life in Kingsport. He graduated from Lynn View High School in 1963 and Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville in 1967. For several years, he was a mechanical engineer for the Boeing Company in Seattle, WA, and later he worked as a mechanical construction engineer for Watts Bar Nuclear Plant and Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville.
While living in Seattle, Wayne loved fishing for salmon. In Kingsport, Wayne became quite an expert in identifying trees; he loved planting them and watching them grow. Since 1955, Wayne was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Horrie and Mary Belle Mullins, and sister, Freda Mullins.
He is survived by two sons, David Mullins and Brian Hendrickson of Madison, WI; grandchild, Nicole Mullins; brothers, Walter Mullins of Kingsport, Emory Mullins of Bristol, and Gene Mullins of Seattle, WA; sisters, Lorene Snapp, Letha Mullins, and June Begley of Kingsport, Cleo Cleek of Church Hill, and Carolyn Leftwich of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael Wrye officiating.
