Jo Ann Wright

Jo Ann Wright, 83, of Kingsport, went to be with her Lord on Sunday afternoon, March 31, 2019, with her family by her side.  She was born on July 5, 1935 and lived in Jonesville, VA up until she graduated from Jonesville High School, residing in Kingsport for most of her life.  Jo Ann provided for her family in a variety of different jobs throughout her life, and was most passionate about using her talents as a seamstress and worked many years in the upholstering business.  She was a member of New Life Freewill Baptist Church in Kingsport. Jo Ann loved going to church, cooking for her family, and any opportunity she could find to lend a hand to a person in need.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Wright; parents, Silas and Flossie Witt; 4 sisters; and 3 brothers.

Jo Ann is survived by her three sons, James A. Wright (Penny), Jerry A. Wright (Glenna) and Jeff A. Wright (Rebecca); three grandsons, Chris, Stephen and Justin; great-grandson, Dalton; sister, Marian (Doris) Garrett; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at New Life Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Hal Calhoun and Rev. Gennis Butler officiating.

The graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

We would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Wexford House for caring for our Mom. We also thank the many residents and their families who have become close friends to us during Mom’s stay. Recently, Mom was under the care of Amedisys Hospice and we are appreciative for keeping her comfortable during her last days.
