Joan Brooks Droke, 71, went home to be with Jesus on March 27, 2009, at her residence. Joan had a great love for her Lord and Savior. She always expressed this love through her service to others, and she was known by her smile and soft spoken voice. She loved her church family and was very faithful to serve in any way she could.
After graduating from ETSU, Joan was employed with Eastman for several years. She later resigned from Eastman to begin her favorite career of caring for her children. She was a loving mother and a loving, faithful wife to her husband.
Joan was raised in Lynn Garden Baptist Church under Pastor J.L. Trent. In 1971, she joined Indian Springs Baptist Church where she served until her home going. Joan was involved in the choir and her Sunday School class and was always by her husband's side in the church kitchen.
Joan was preceded in death by her infant son, Anthony Wayne Droke; parents, Dana and Mary Ruth Odom; grandparents, Robert and Bertha Hutson and Harrison and Lyda Odom; and one step-brother, J.D. Odom.
Joan is survived by her husband, J. Wayne Droke; son Patrick Droke of Chattanooga, TN; daughters, Angie Droke and Mari Beth Droke, both of Kingsport; one sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Larry Lyon of Kingsport; and a special nephew, Jason Lyon of Chattanooga, TN.
A memorial and praise service will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Indian Springs Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends after the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Indian Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 325 Hill Road, Kingsport, TN 37664 or Gideons International, P.O. Box 571, Kingsport, TN 37662.
