Joan Beverly Hawk, age 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, following a short illness.
She was born on June 13, 1929, in Belfry, Kentucky, and moved to Tennessee as a teen. She began her career in Sales Management at Harrison?s Bootery in Kingsport. Joan was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she served as secretary.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Eldridge W. Hawk; her father and mother, Toby Waggoner Beverly and Eva Ann Powers Beverly; as well as a sister, Lassie Beverly Buckbee; and two brothers, T. W. Beverly and Farrell Beverly.
She leaves behind her three loving daughters, Rebecca Hawk Salyer husband Curtis Salyer, Connie Hawk, and Krisanne Hawk Ward husband, John P. Ward.
Also surviving are her two sisters, Anna Beverly Russsell and Margaret Faye Beverly; one brother, John Beverly and wife, Betty; four grandchildren, Brandon James Salyer, Travis Jordan Salyer, Morgan Leigh Ward, and Savannah Jo Ward; as well as several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Anna and Lowell Beverly, Virgil and Brenda Harrell, Linda Patrick, and Sherry and Richard Knuth.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, and any time at the home.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Wes Rankin officiating. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Brandon Salyer, Travis Salyer, Jeff Hall, Richard Knuth, David Beverly, and Nathaniel Galloway will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution be made to Wellmont Hospice, 280 Steeles Road, Bristol, TN 37620 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Wanda Grills, 1217 Radcliffe Avenue, Kingsport, TN 37664.
