Mrs. Joan Mandish Miller, 88, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 19, 2014, following an extended illness. A native of Spangler, PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael Paul and Anna Mandish. She was an avid baker, loved to play cards and when health allowed, loved bowling. Joan was a long time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Morristown and attended Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church. She spent 20 years volunteering at Central Services Food Pantry and for Hospice, in Morristown. She baked breads for the Salvation Army and for the Kitchen of Hope, in Kingpsort. Joan retired from JC Penny's after many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Eierman Miller, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Jayne Miller-Fritz and husband, Mack Jr. of Kingsport; son, Lieutenant Colonel retired, Ross Miller and wife, Kim of Yorktown, VA; two grandchildren, Lara Bayles and husband, Joe of Loma Linda, CA, and Allie Fritz of Cookville, TN; one great-granddaughter, Joanna Bayles of Loma Linda, CA; her youngest sister, Anne Hochhauser of Mamaroneck, NY; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Miller of Baltimore, MD, and Penny Miller of Asheville, NC; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Hazel Fritz, Justin Hodge and Matthew Harrison. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Comfort Keepers of Kingsport, especially Suzanne Brumfield, Fern Scott, Emma Davis, Ginger Ingram, and Patsy Hass; and to all of the staff of Smokey Mountain Hospice for the care they gave Joan.
Graveside services will be held at a later date.
