Joan B. Morelock, age 83, of Kingsport, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus Monday, March 11, 2013, with her family by her side at Emeritus Senior Living.

She was born in Knox County on September 11, 1929, the daughter of the late Lee and Ella Birdwell. Joan was a member of Sullivan Baptist Church for 63 years, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and sang in the choir. She attended Sullivan High School and later received her GED. Joan was a homemaker, baby sitter, caregiver, and restaurant owner.

Joan enjoyed playing softball and loved bowling. She bowled in several leagues for many years and was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary. Most of all, she was a loving and caring wife, mother, and mamaw.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.J. Morelock, daughter, Joyce M. Rector, two brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Adams and husband, Jerry, and Debbie Davidson and husband, Carl; sons, Clay Morelock and Wesley Morelock; granddaughters, Monica Hurd, Kendra Snyder, Joyce Morelock, and Sara Morelock; grandsons, J.K. Adams, Ian Davidson, C.J. Morelock, Seth Morelock, and Wesley Morelock, Jr.; two great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; brothers, Robert Birdwell of Powell, TN, Ernest Birdwell of Hendersonville, TN, Eddie Birdwell of Nashville, TN. and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Shane Kirk for his encouragement and faithful visits.

A celebration of her life will be held at Sullivan Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Sunday, March 24th from 2-4:00 p.m.

Joan donated her body to the University of Tennessee to help in the research of Friedreich's Ataxia Disease.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan Baptist Church Building Fund at 4152 Maplewood St., Kingsport, TN 37660.
