Joe L. "Pop" Barnette, 95, of Kingsport, died Thursday evening, July 3, 2008, at Lakeridge Health Care Center in Johnson City.
Born November 1, 1912 in a log cabin in Fairview, VA, he came to Kingsport in 1942 and was employed in Power and Services at Eastman Kodak for 35 years, retiring in 1976.
Joe was an avid story teller and gifted at holding the attention of his listeners. He attended Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Joe was a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, and doted over all of them.
Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Winstead and husband Dennis, and Ronda Bellamy and husband Steve; one sister, Jane Lawson, all of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Sunny Beasley, Richard Lawson, and Paula Eaton; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Knight, Haley Eaton, Tori Eaton, Hunter Eaton, and Emma Lawson.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home; or anytime at the home of Marilyn Winstead.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
Entombment services will be held at 11am Monday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
