Joe N. Penix, 82, of the Lovelace Community, passed away Friday afternoon, November 28, 2008 at his home following an extended illness.
Joe was born in Greene County and had resided in Michigan for 30 ½ years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Germany and France during World War II. Joe was an employee of Ford Motor Company retiring in 1983 after 30 years of service and a member of U.A.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Josephine Penix; one brother, Fred Penix; and two sisters, Lucy Rector and Mary Jane Penix.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Penix of the home; one son, Leonard "Len" Penix of Cincinnati, OH; one grandson, Matthew Penix; three sisters, Frances McGee of Chuckey, Mrs. Don Doris Jeffers of Kingsport, and Marie Penix of Chuckey, TN; one brother, James "Dub" Penix of Michigan; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch. Services will follow at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Allen Brummett, Rev. Victor Wallace, and Rev. Joe Baker officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lovelace Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gene Frye, Glenn Hillman, Mark Moore, Don Shipley, Ray Mitchell, and Raymond Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be E. B. Moore, J. D. Moore, Don Jeffers, and Roy Lee Dykes.
