Joe Ray Townsend, 94, Fall Branch, TN, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at NHC Healthcare, Johnson City, TN.

He was originally from Watauga County, NC, a son of Charles Enzer Townsend and Rosa Belle Eggers Townsend. He lived most of his adult life in Fall Branch, TN with his wife Rosa Lee Copas Townsend.

Mr. Townsend was a member of First Baptist Church of Fall Branch.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife; his parents; four brothers, Ira Eugene Townsend, George Grant Townsend, Charles Henry Townsend, and Aubyn Smith Townsend; and three sisters, Myrtle Snow Townsend, Mary Frost Bean, and Ruby Jane Patton.

Mr. Townsend is survived by a sister-in-law, Verna Barnes of Fall Branch; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; and several special neighbors and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday October 19, 2007 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. at the Fall Branch Chapel with Rev. Carl Strickler and Rev. Vic Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Logan?s Chapel UMC Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dale Barnes, Jay McNeely, Herman Babb, John T. Brown, John W. Brown, Bobby Garst, Anthony Townsend, and Billy Holden.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church of Fall Branch, 1525 Hwy 93, Fall Branch, TN 37656; the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 3952, Kingsport, TN 37664; Caris Healthcare of Johnson City, 1409 W. Market Street, Johnson City, TN 37604; or to the charity of one?s choice.

The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Dossett and all the healthcare workers at NHC.
