Joe Townsend

Joe Townsend, 75, of Fall Branch, TN, went to be with the Lord Friday morning, January 5, 2018, surrounded by his family following an extended illness. Joe was born in Banner Elk and resided in Fall Branch for most of his life. He attended Sullivan High School where he played football. Joe was a member of Sullivan Baptist Church. He received his 50 year Masonic pin in 2017 from Johnson Lodge. Joe was an over the road driver for Roy B. Moore Trucking, Harris Trucking, and retired from ABF Freight in 2006.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Charlotte; sister, Carolyn, and brother, Gaither.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 56 and a half years, Iva Mae Townsend; special daughter, Pam Willis and husband Bud whom he loved like a son; two precious granddaughters, Amanda Adkins and Daniel, and Amber Jeffers and James; one brother, Keys Townsend and wife Jolene; several nieces, great nieces and great nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Strong and Rev. Victor Wallace officiating.

Burial will follow at Logans Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, due to allergies, the family requests memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Sullivan Baptist Church Building Fund, 4152 Maplewood St, Kingsport, TN 37660
