Joe V. Johnson

Joe V. Johnson, 72, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Kingsport, he retired from Eastman Chemical Company in 1999 after 32 years of service. Joe never met a stranger and loved living life. Some of the things that made it enjoyable for him were playing the guitar, watching college football and especially a good joke. He was also known for his "cat head" biscuits and gravy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie and O.P. Johnson, Sr., six brothers, Thomas "Slick", Olin Paul, Jr., James Boyd "Cotton", Dave, Howard and Bill "Red" Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Brenda Glass Johnson; daughter, Angela Renea Stokes; son, Steven Paul Johnson and wife Michelle; grandson, Aaron Jacob Stokes; brother, Kenneth Johnson and wife Carol; sister, Esther Brown; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12p.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Baker and Pastor Tim Hodges officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 2600 E Center St., Kingsport, TN 37660.
