Joe Curtis Weatherly, 85, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday September 1, 2007 at Wexford House.
He was born on April 27, 1922 in Hiltons, Virginia. Joe had been a resident of Kingsport since 1952, with the exception of 15 years spent at his farm in Hiltons.
Joe was a veteran of World War II with one year and three months of service in Europe. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Germany.
Mr. Weatherly was employed at Eastman for 42 years, retiring in May, 1984. He was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.
Joe?s family and friends are comforted by their cherished memories of this unforgettable husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt and Florence Curtis Weatherly; and his brother, Jack Weatherly.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Helen Derting Weatherly; his adored daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Bob Jones; and his pride and joy, his granddaughter, Kate Jones, all of Kingsport. He also leaves behind four sisters, Evelyn Bralley and Gerry Weatherly of Hiltons, VA, Virginia Rose and husband, Cecil, of Kingsport, and Shirley Salyer and husband, Charles, of Church Hill; and three nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Broad Street United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service in the First Broad Street United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
