Joseph "Chops" Wurster, 63, Kingsport, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Born in Olean, NY, on June 11, 1949, he had resided in this area for the last 6 years, moving from Pinella's Park, Florida where they had lived for 32 years. He was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of Amvets, American Legion, DAV and the Eagles. Joe played and wrote music, a Harley-Davidson enthusiast and worked in stained glass.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Philip Wurster in 2004.
Joe is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laurie Wurster; brother, Richard L. Wurster, and wife, Geraldine of Portville, NY; sister, Donna Reed and husband, Leonard of Portville, NY; parents, Richard L. and Arlo Rae Barnes Wurster of Portville, NY; several nieces and nephews; and his Florida brotherhood.
A family gathering will be held on Thursday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30th at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Portville, NY with Rev. Marilyn Hale officiating.
