OBITUARY INFORMATION

John David Alvis, 81, of Kingsport, passed away Friday, December 22, 2006 at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation-Hillside.
John was born April 18, 1925 in Hawkins County, but had resided most of his life in Sullivan County. He was a U. S. Army veteran assigned to the European Theatre during World War II and a member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.
John was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Alvis; parents, George and Lily Alvis; brothers, Gale Alvis and Houston Alvis; and sisters, Elsie Alvis, Lou Alvis, Nola Murray, and Inez Frazier.
Surviving are his daughter, Joan Barbour and husband, Amos; two sons, David Alvis and Steve Alvis, all of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Amy Chastain and husband, Richard, Ginger Barbour, Bret Alvis, and Levi Alvis; and one great-granddaughter, Whitney Chastain.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. J. C. ?Jake? Riner officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.
The family would like to thank the staff of SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation-Hillside for all of the care given to our father. They would also like to thank the ladies of Adventa Hospice.
