John F. Austin, Sr., 82, of Kingsport, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 12, 2009, at his residence. Born March 21, 1927, in Castlewood, VA, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in South Korea. He moved to Kingsport in 1947 and was employed by Giant and Oakwood Food Markets as Meat Department manager for a total of 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold G. and Cellia M. Austin; one brother, Paul G. Austin; two sisters, Goldie M. Gilbert and Patsy B. Hileman.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, loving caregiver Marjorie R. Austin; three daughters and their spouses, Shirley and Earl Hobbs, Debbie and Mike Ott, Donna and Jerry Moyers; one son, John F. Austin, Jr.; five grandchildren, Michael Hobbs, Victoria Ott, Holly Reed, Amber Kerchner, Joshua Moyers; five great-grandchildren, Zachery Hobbs, Matthew Reed, Luke Reed, Alannah Kerchner, Graiden Kerchner; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Christian Life Center Church from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with Rev. Eddie Johnson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Temple Hill Memorial Gardens in Castlewood, VA.
