John "JD" Daniel Barrett

"JD" Barrett, 78, of Gray, went to be with the Lord following an extended illness. Born in Norton, VA he was the son of the late Clarence and Fernia Pendleton Barrett. He served in the U.S. Army in the armored tank division. JD retired from Mason Dixon Trucking Company after many years. He was a member of Salley's Chapel in Weber City, VA. He enjoyed farming and his horses.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Selma Davidson Barrett of the home; daughter, Teresa Barker and husband, Chuck of Gray; two grandchildren, Claire and John Barker; sister, Marie Bishop; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

A special thank you to Wellmont Cancer Center, Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Wellmont Hospice nurses and caregivers for the wonderful care they gave JD, and to friends and family that have been very supportive during this time.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. George Winegar officiating.

The graveside service will be conducted on Friday at 12:00 pm at Highland Church Cemetery in Gray.

Pallbearers will be John Barker, Chuck Barker, Cody Baskett, Steve Crane, Chris Davidson, Jason Davidson and Keith Davidson. Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Bledsoe, Doc Doolittle, Bill Horton, Saunders Jackson, Wayne King, Leroy Medlin, Barry Pendleton and Bill Pendleton.
