John (Bernard) Walters, 82, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 3, 2016. John graduated from Sullivan High School He served in the Korean War for the U.S. Army. John retired from the Government Printing Office in Washington D.C. He Pastored New Covenant Pentecostal Church on 2315 E. Center Street, which was also the community he grew up in.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Campbell Walters; father, Edgar Walters; brother, Charles Walters; and son-in-law, Steve Costella.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Pleasant Walters; one son, Johnny Walters (Gwen) of York, SC; two daughters, Rhonda Walters Costella and Moretta (Buddy) Walters Cretsinger; grandchildren, Christopher and Robert Walters of Maryland, Cristy Eagan, Jennifer Bolling, Jonathan Costella, Joshua and Caleb Phillips; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brayden, Sarah Jane, and Freya; brother, Doug Walters (Carolyn); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at New Covenant Pentecostal Church with Rev. Arthur Collins, Brother William Gross, and Pastor Buddy Cretsinger officiating.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be Robert Walters, Joshua Phillips, Caleb Phillips, Scott Walters, Keith Walters, Jonathan Costella, and Ted Collins.
