John C. Browder, 72, Kingsport, passed away peacefully at his home Monday morning following a brief illness. John was born in Scott County, Virginia where he graduated from Gate City High School. After graduating, he began his career at Eastman, retiring in 1996 following 34 years of service. John served in the Tennessee National Guard. He loved to work on cars and was known as a Mr. Fix It man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dana Browder.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carolyn J. Browder, who loved him dearly; son, Alan Browder and wife Kim, of Jonesborough, TN; special cousins, Mike and Steve Browder, Peggy and Tom Jayne, and Gary Addington; special friends, Cecil Ketron, Jerry Pruett, Lee Roy McGhee, and Frank Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport with Rev. Ray Amos and Rev. Adam Love officiating, with burial immediately following at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Habitat For Humanity, 750 East Main Street, or to the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center, c/o Gifts Processing, PMB 407727 2301 Vanderbilt Place, Nashville, Tennessee 37240-7727.
