John "D" Bruner, 76, of Surgoinsville, TN, formerly of Shelbyville, IN, passed away early Tuesday morning at his home following an extended illness.
John was born in Scott County VA, and had resided in Hawkins County for the last two years. He was a diesel mechanic. John served in the United States Marine Corps for ten years, serving as a Corporal in Korea and Japan. He was a member of the American Legion in Shelbyville, and Moose in Greensboro, IN. John was an avid NRA member.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and C.R. Bruner; one sister, Dorothy Cole.
Survivors include his wife Darlene K. Bruner; one daughter, Jodie Traylor and husband John of Gandeeville WV; three sons, Jon Bruner and wife Jennifer of Surgoinsville, Mike Bruner of Kingsport, Randy Bruner and wife Shannon of Melbourne, FL; step-daughter, Sarah Kleinschnitz and husband Ted of Melbourne, FL; step-son, Allen McDavid and wife Jody of Kingsport; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Maretha Durham of Cookeville, TN.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday February 25, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday with Rev. Wayne Gilliam officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Tuesday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military rites by the United States Marine Corps and the American Legion Posts# 3/265.
