John C. "Big Bad John" Campbell

John C. "Big Bad John" Campbell, 84, of Kingsport, went home to be with his family and the Lord on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his residence following a brief illness. Born in Kingsport on January 11, 1929, a son of the late John C. and Mary Beatrice Long
Campbell, he had resided in this area his entire life. John was a 1949 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School where he played football and attended ETSU for 2 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the VFW Post #3382. John retired from Eastman Kodak in 1986 following 30 years of service and was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers, Ora T. Campbell, Fred Campbell and Charles Gilmer Campbell; and four sisters, Lillian Boroix Campbell, Genita Campbell, Agatha Francis Campbell and Reba Lucille Campbell.

John is survived by three children, Toni M. Shaw and David P. Campbell, both of Mebane, NC, and dedicated daughter and caregiver for the last five years, Jeri R. Kenney and special friend, Bob Ladd of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Jon L. Branham of North Carolina, Whitney Wolfe and husband, Adam, and Adam and Noah Campbell of North Carolina; four great-grandchildren; special friends, M.V. Branham, Kurt Buckles and Bob Ladd; and several nieces and nephews.

Inurnment services will be conducted on Friday at 10:45 a.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265.
