John C. Dayton, 75, of Kingsport, died Monday, January 25, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. John's greatest joy was spending time with his family and keeping in touch with his many friends around the country. He was well known for his fine woodworking and furniture-making skills and also for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles T. Dayton and Idamarie Hamp; stepfather, Hubert Hamp; and brother, Kraig B. Dayton.
John is survived by his wife, Connie Lane Dayton of Kingsport; children, Michael Dayton and wife, January of Knoxville, Julie Henry and husband, Rusty of Kingsport, and Jennifer Church and husband, Jay of Kingsport; 8 grandchildren, Blake Dayton, Alex Dayton, Taylor Henry, Lauren Church, Tanner Henry, Riley Dayton, Rainer Dayton and Reid Dayton; special stepmother and good friend, Arlene Dayton of Florida; nephews, Terry Dayton and wife, Marcia, Kim Dayton and Tom Dayton all of Michigan; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda Hunt and husband, Jack of Kingsport; niece, Lisa Taylor and husband, Phil and their daughter, Cara, nephew, Scott Hunt and son, Tristan, all of Kingsport. John is also survived by many friends and neighbors who meant so much to him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Julie Henry, 1072 Centerbrook Circle, Kingsport, TN 37663. A donation will be given to Cardiac Rehab.
