John J. Collins AKA Jack Collins 86, died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Remington House Retirement Home in Kingsport, TN. Born in Newark, NJ, son of Ida and John S. Collins, Jack served in the US Navy during WWII. He was employed with Grumman Aircraft Bethpage NY and in 1988 retired from Monitor Aerospace Amityville, NY and Boca Raton, FL.
Jack, a life-long entertainer, had a passion for music; played guitar and organ and sang professionally at the Sit N Sip, Smithtown, NY. He was a member of Smithtown, NY Yacht Club and later Meadow Oak Golf Club, Hudson FL. He recently relocated to Remington House Retirement Community. Jack passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his son, William.
Jack is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons, Robert, John Karen, Richard, and Anthony Sue; daughters, Janet Billy Spatz, and Suzanne; stepchildren, Jeffrey and Meredith Kost; 18 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law, Jean Wendell Robert.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 5th at 4:00 pm at Rock Springs United Methodist Church, 227 Church View Dr., Kingsport, TN with Rev. Buddy Butler officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
