John Eliot Souther

John Eliot Souther, 73, a lifelong resident of Kingsport, TN, passed away at Indian Path Medical Center on May 3, 2016 after a brief illness. Born May 1, 1943, he graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended East Tennessee State University. John worked at Mason & Dixon for over 20 years and was the Assistant Sales Manager of JBR Buick GMC Truck Inc. upon retiring. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and working with cattle. John was an accomplished photographer and a custom car enthusiast. A Civil War aficionado, he had recovered innumerable artifacts from that era. He was the leader of the Compassionate Friends of TN-VA, Bristol/Kingsport chapter.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine A. Souther, and his parents, John P. and Bernice P. Souther.

He is survived by his wife, Shira L. Souther; his son, Jeffrey A. Souther; brother-in-law, Michael D. Light; sister-in-law, Marla L. Griesedieck and husband, Joseph E. Griesedieck; and two nieces and their families.

Rev. Mitchell Whisnant will officiate at private graveside services.
