John Hamilton Miller MD

John Hamilton Miller, MD, 97, died of complications from previous heart attacks and strokes at Asbury Place, Kingsport, TN, on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Born August 5, 1920, he was the fourth son of Hamilton Henry Miller and Wm. C. Miller of Chester, SC. He attended the public schools of Chester and later attended Erskine College, the University of North Carolina and Emory University where he received his MD degree on December 20, 1943. Following graduation he served for three years in the US Navy as a Medical Officer in the Pacific theater. He practiced General Medicine in Bartow, FL, for 48 years as a member of the Partnership of Miller, Caswell, Coury and Nobo. Dr. Miller was a member of the Bartow Kiwanis Club, the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and the Bartow Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a SCUBA diver, snow skier and an amateur genealogist. His family histories and his genealogic records are filed in the Chester (SC) County Library, the Polk County (FL) Library, the McCain Library at Erskine College and the library of the University of South Carolina.

He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Kennedy Miller, on February 16, 1995, by his only son, John Kennedy Miller, on October 4, 2004, and by his brother, Thomas D. Miller.

John is survived by brother Robert W. Miller of Kingsport, TN and wife Doris, and sister in law Mae Lee Miller of Roanoke, VA. He is also survived by fifteen nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will take place at the Bartow Municipal Cemetery in Bartow, FL, on a yet to be selected date.

In place of flowers, it is suggested that memorial gifts be made to Library, Erskine College,
