John Martin Harr, 95, of Kingsport, died on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at 10 p.m. at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, following a short illness.
John was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was employed in Organic Chemicals with Tennessee Eastman for 42 years.
Mr. Harr was a member of Cassidy United Methodist Church for many years.
John loved gardening and shared fruits and vegetables with family, friends and strangers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Martha Ann Wine Harr; wife, Bonnie; son, Billy R. Harr; brothers, Henry David Harr, Grady Harr, James Robert Harr and Haskell Harr; sisters, Sarah Tomlinson, Hazel Simerly, Justine Netherland and Lenora Wood.
Surviving are his daughter, Virginia Harr and husband, Marvin Dale, of Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Harr, of Kingsport; grandchildren, Julie Harr-Johnson, Tim Harr and Tammy Harr-Wininger; great-grandchildren, Sarah Cech, David Johnson, Katie Johnson, Victoria Johnson, Meagan Harr, Travis Harr, Brandon Wininger, Jarred Wininger, Madelyn Wininger and Aaron Wininger; brother, Charles Harr, of Blountville; sisters, Pauline Templeton and Lola Mae Haney, both of Blountville.
The family will receive friends Sunday, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Services will be Sunday at 2:00 at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Chuck Griffin officiating.
Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
